Opened in 1942 during World War II, it was later known as Greenville Air Force Base. In 1951 it was renamed Donaldson Air Force Base, in honor of Captain John O. Donaldson, a Greenville native and World War I flying ace. Closed 1962.

From 1942 to 1945, served as a US Army Air Corps glider base. The 19th AAF Glider Training Detachment was a Basic training school active from September 1942 until March 1943 using Aeronca TG-5 and Laister-Kauffmann TG-4A training gliders.

Opened in 1928 and was initially named Greenville Municipal Airport. In 1930, GMU received its first airmail flight. Until 1962, GRL was the only commercial airport for the Greenville area. FAA designator was changed to GMU in 1962.

Oakhill Airpark - see No. 10 above. It is just off of Oakhill Road, has a sod strip and is pretty well developed. It is located in Greenville County just west of U.S. Hwy. 25 (Augusta Road) and about 13 road miles due south of Donaldson Center.
