The American Revolution in South Carolina

August 12, 1780 - Port's Ferry

December 1780 - Lynches Creek Massacre

March 23, 1781 - Snow's Island

April 3, 1781 - Witherspoon's Ferry

After the fall of Charlestown, in June of 1780, Col. Hugh Giles raised a regiment of militia between the Lynches River and the Pee Dee River - would be present-day Florence County. Some call it the Lynches River Regiment, some call it the Britton's Neck Regiment. Most consider Col. Hugh Giles to be over the Lower Craven County Regiment of Militia.
