was elected Clerk, gave up his seat from St. Philip's & St.
Michael's Parish. |
(1) William Moultrie was elected to the Legislative
Council but did not take his seat there until mid-September.
He was re-elected to his seat in St. Helena's Parish but chose
to take his seat in the Legislative Council. A new election was
ordered, but apparently this seat remained vacant during the
second session of this General Assembly. |
(2) Stephen Bull was elected to the Legislative
Council. Seat remained vacant. |
(3) Joseph Kershaw was elected to the Legislative
Council. Seat remained vacant. |
(4) Richard Richardson was elected to the Legislative
Council. Seat remained vacant. |
(5) Took his seat September 18, but it was challenged
by William Scott, Jr., whom the General Assembly decided in favor
of, so William Scott, Jr. was seated September 24. |
(6) Clement Lampriere elected Captain of the
Prosper on April 11, 1776. Seat vacated. |
(7) John Rutledge Elected President on March
26, 1776 and took office on March 28, 1776. Joshua Toomer eleted
to replace him and he took his seat on October 3, 1776. |
(8) Commissioned as Assistant Judge on April
15, 1776, thereby losing this seat. Re-elected and refilled the
seat of Thomas Fuller in October. |
(9) Replaced Thomas Bee when he was appointed
as Assistant Judge. Then replaced Thomas Bee on the Legislative
Council, see below. Not re-elected in October, replaced by Thomas
Bee. |
(10) Commissioned as Assistant Judge on March
27, 1776, thereby losing this seat. Re-elected and refilled this
seat on September 19, 1776. |
(11) David Oliphant's House seat replaced by
John Waring. By September, Oliphant had been chosen for the Continental
Office of Director General of Hospitals, and his successor was
elected by the General Assembly. |
(12) John Parker elected to the Legislative Council.
William Parker elected to replace him and he took his seat on
October 9, 1776. |
(13) Benjamin Singleton died before September
9, 1776 and Keating Simons was elected to fill this vacancy. |
(14) Daniel Horry was elected to the Legislative
Council. Seat remained vacant. |
(15) Thomas Ferguson was elected to the Legislative
Council. George Livingston was elected to replace him, and he
took his seat on September 18, 1776. |
(16) Died on September 18, 1776. Alexander Moultrie
elected, took his seat on October 9, 1776. |
(17) His election was declared null and void
on October 2, 1776. |
(18) Elected as delegate to Continental Congress,
but seat declared not vacated. |
(19) His election was declared null and void
on October 2, 1776. |
(20) Elected Vice-President March 26, 1776 and
took office on March 28, 1776. |
(21) John Huger was elected Secretary of State.
He was replaced by Hopson Pinckney, who took his seat on September
25, 1776. |
(22) William Parker was elected Commissioner
of the Treasury on April 9, 1776. Thomas Screven was elected
to replace him and he took his seat on September 18, 1776. |
(23) Thomas Shubrick elected to the Legislative
Council. Robert Smith was elected to replace him and he took
his seat on September 18, 1776. |
(24) Henry William Harrington was elected Sheriff
of Cheraws District. George Hicks was elected to replace him,
and he took his seat on September 19, 1776. |
(25) Although elected to a seat in Charles Town
District, then elected to Continental Congress, this seat was
not considered null and void nor vacant while he was in Philadelphia. |
(26) His election was declared null and void
on October 2, 1776. |
(27) LeRoy Hammond was elected to the Legislative
Council. Seat remained vacant. |
(28) Killed in battle with the Cherokee Indians
on August 1, 1776. |
(29) May have been filled by Lachlan McIntosh,
shown above as "unknown district" - long story, but
records are not clear. |
(30) Might be the same man as John Henry Feller,
Jr (2nd Provincial Congress). |
(31) William Henry Drayton was elected Chief
Justice on March 27, 1776. William Tucker was elected to replace
him, and he took his seat on October 15, 1776. |
