An Act to Renew and Extend the Charter of Furman University and to Amend the Same.

Whereas by Concurrent Resolution of the Senate and House of Representatives it was resolved that this Bill be allowed to be introduced; therefore,

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, That the charter of Furman University be, and the same is hereby, renewed and extended for the period of thirty years from the ratification of this Act and until the adjournment of the next session of the General Assembly after the expiration of the time stated.

Section 2. That in electing the trustees provided for in Section 2 of the original Act of incorporation, the said State Convention of the Baptist denomination of South Carolina may at the next or any subsequent election, if so advised, elect a certain number of said trustees to serve for one year, a certain number to serve for two years, a certain number to serve for three years, a certain number to serve for four years, and a certain number to serve for five years, and may from year to year thereafter elect for five years the successors of those whose terms expire by limitation.

Section 3. That all Acts of said corporation, and of its authorized agents, done and performed at any time since the expiration of its charter, and consistent therewith, shall be held, and the same is hereby declared, legal and valid.
