SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, That Section 15 of an Act entitled “An Act to declare the free school law of the State,” approved 9th March, 1896, be, and the same is hereby, amended by inserting on line 5 in said Section between the words “dollars” and “payable” the words “and except in Newberry County, in which the salary shall be six hundred dollars ($600.00).” So that said Section when thus amended shall read as follows:

"Section 15. The salary of the County Superintendent of Education of each County shall be the same as that now fixed or hereafter to be fixed by law for the School Commissioner thereof, except in Chester County, in which the salary shall be five hundred dollars, and except in Newberry County, in which the salary shall be six hundred dollars ($600.00), and except in the County of Marlboro, in which the salary shall be four hundred dollars ($400.00), payable monthly by the County Board of Commissioners out of the ordinary County funds; and he shall be allowed one hundred dollars per annum for traveling expenses, if so much be necessary, payable in the same manner, upon an itemized statement of such expenses being filed with said Board: Provided, Nothing shall be allowed for traveling expenses in the Counties of Saluda, Edgefield, Darlington and Berkeley."
