An Act to Amend an Act Entitled "An Act to Create a School District in that Portion of Barnwell County Lying Within the Corporate Limits of the Town of Williston," Approved December 24th, A.D. 1888, as to Election of Trustees.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, That Section 2 of an Act entitled “An Act to create a school district of that portion of Barnwell County lying within the corporate limits of the town of Williston,” approved December 24th, A. D. 1888, be, and the same is hereby, amended by striking out Section 2 of said Act and inserting in lieu thereof the following for Section 2, to wit:

"Section 2. That the Trustees of said district now in office shall continue in office until the second Tuesday in May, 1897, on which day there shall be held an election for the purpose of selecting seven Trustees of said district, at which election only the qualified electors residing within said district shall be permitted to vote, the Trustees elected to draw lots for terms of office, two to serve for one year, two for two years, two for three years and one for four years, their successors to be elected on the second Tuesday in May of the year in which their respective terms of office expire, the election to be by ballot and conducted under the supervision of three qualified electors residing within the district, who shall be appointed by the County Superintendent of Education for that purpose at least five days before said election; and in case either of the persons appointed by the County Superintendent of Education fail or refuse to serve, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees shall fill the vacancy, the managers to report the result of the election to the County Superintendent of Education within ten days there after, and the Trustees elected shall be commissioned by the County Board of Education. No Trustee of this district shall be a trustee or stockholder in any private or other school of higher education within this district. The books and vouchers of the Board of Trustees and of their Secretary and Treasurer shall be at all times open to inspection by the public."
