An Act to Renew and Amend the Charter of the Due West Female College.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, now met and sitting in General Assembly, and by the authority of the same, That J. F. Lee, John N. Young, J. L. Miller, H. E. Bonner, W. M. Grier, J. P. Kennedy, R. S. Galloway and John L. Pressly, and their associates and successors, be, and they are hereby, created a body corporate, by the name and style of "The Due West Female College," for the purpose of establishing, organizing and conducting a seminary of learning for females, in the village of Due West, in Abbeville County; and that said corporation, by the name aforesaid, shall have power to sue, and be liable to be sued, in any of the Courts of this State, to use a common seal, and to make all such by-laws, rules and regulations as it may deem necessary and proper for the establishment, organization and government of such seminary of learning, and the transaction of the business of such corporation: Provided, however, Such by-laws, rules and regulations be not inconsistent with or repugnant to the laws of the land.

Sec. 2. The said corporation shall have power to purchase, acquire and hold property, real and personal, to an amount not exceeding two hundred thousand dollars, and the same to sell and convey; and shall also have power to grant diplomas to, and confer degrees upon, the graduates of said seminary.

Sec. 3. This Act shall be deemed a Public Act and shall continue in force until amended or repealed.
