An Act to Incorporate Certain Societies and Companies, and to Renew and Amend Certain Charters Heretobefore Granted, and for Other Purposes.

December 15, 1845

The Statutes at Large of South Carolina, Volume XI, Pages 341-346.

I, II, III - Religious societies and associations incorporated:

- The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mount Calvary in Edgefield District;
- Good Hope Church on Cloud's Creek in Edgefield District;
- Corinth Church in Edgefield District;
- St. Mark's Church in Edgefield District;
- Bethlehem Church on Little Black Creek in Lexington District;
- Mount Zion Church near Holly Creek in Lexington District.

IV, V, VI, VII, and VIII - Companies and societies incorporated:

- The Moultrie Guards,
- The Washington Greys,
- Hayne Lodge, No. 11, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Georgetown,
- Hamburg Fire Engine Company,
- Ebenezer Band.

IX - Societies re-incorporated for fourteen (14) years:

- Ladies' Benevolent Society in Charleston,
- Town of Beaufort,
- Cheraw Presbyterian Society,
- St. Andrew's Agricultural and Police Society.

X - Town of Beaufort authorized to try all defaulters of patrol duty.

XI. That all persons who now are, or hereafter may become members of the "Marion Academy Society;" those persons who now are or herefter may become members of the "St. Luke Agricultural Society," be, and are hereby declared bodies politic and corporate by the name and style to each respectively assigned. This Act to continue in force for the term of fourteen years.

XII. The Societies aforesaid shall have, by their respective names, succcession of officers and members, to be chosen and admitted according to their respective by-laws; shall have the power to make by-laws not repugnant to the laws of the land, to have, use and keep a common seal, and the same to alter at will, to sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded in any Court of this State, and to have and enjoy every right incident to incorporations. They are also empowered, respectively, to retain, possess and enjoy all such property, real and personal, as they may now be possessed of, or entitled to, or which may hereafter be given, bequeathed to, or in any manner acquired by them: Provided, the amount so held in neither case exceed the sum of five thousand dollars.

XIII & XIV - Village of Laurensville incorporated.

XV - Trustees of the Presbyterian Church in the town of Spartanburg incorporated and to take over the Rocky Creek Church in Abbeville District.

XVI & XVII - Societies and Associations incorporated:

- Trinity Church on Big Creek in Edgefield District,
- The Swift Creek Baptist Church of Darlington,
- Nazareth Church in Spartanburg District,
- Mount Lebanon, a Lutheran Church in Orangeburg District,
- The Aiken Lodge, No. 7, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows,
- Lafayette Lodge, No. 8, of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Chester Court House,
- Baptist Church of Christ, of Winyaw.

XVIII - Re-incorporated for fourteen (14) years:

- New Hope Baptist Church in Spartanburg District,
- The Union Light Infantry Charitable Society,
- Humility Lodge, No. 12, of Ancient Free Masons at Branchville.

XIX - The village of Spartanburg re-incorporated for fourteen (14) years.

XX - Vaucluse Manufacturing Company charter renewed.

XXI, XXII, XXIII, XXIV, and XXV - Town of Mount Pleasant incorporated.

XXVI, XXVII, and XXVIII - Bridge across the Savannah River at Hamburgh to be vested in the South Carolina Rail Road Company. They must pay current owner.

In the Senate House, the fifteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-five, and in the seventieth year of the sovereignty and independence of the United States of America.
