**From 1800 to 1868 all South Carolina "Counties"
were called "Districts." In 1868, South Carolina changed
its position on this and began using the term "County"
again instead of District. Herein, the term County is used to
keep from confusing folks with South Carolina's usage of "overarching
Districts" between 1769 and 1800, which sometimes included
multiple counties and other times did not. Ya gotta see the maps
for it to all make sense - I hope. |
