+ 1923 - During 1923, the stock of the company was owned by Broad River Lumber Co., with headquarters at Huntington, WV. Said company now out of business and present owners, Griffith Lumber Co., Stackhouse, NC, unable to get books to make report for 1923. [NC Corporation Commission 22nd Report, 1924]
+ 1919 - Leased the Madison County Railway.
+ 1919 - Company organized on June 5, 1919, under the laws of North Carolina.

In 1910, the Madison County Railway acquired the assets of the Laurel River Logging Company, and construction resumed on that logging line from Stackhouse to Runion. The railroad also began consolidating the many disjointed logging lines within Madison County, with the intent of gathering the large amount of poplar and pine.

The line eventually stretched from Stackhouse, paralleling the Southern Railway tracks to Runion, then it turned northward and eventually extended to Roaring Fork in Tennessee.

By 1925, most activity on the railroad had ceased, and the line was abandoned on January 1, 1926. In the late 1930s, the remaining locomotive and rails were cut up for scrap metal and reportedly sold to Japan.
