From the 1st Annual Report of the North Carolina Railroad
Commission, dated December 31, 1891:
The road extends from Cascade Junction, VA, to Leaksville,
NC, a distance of eight miles.
The road was opened in April, 1882. Receiver appointed in 1885;
J. T. Morehead, receiver, Leaksville, NC.
The road is operated by the Richmond & Danville Railroad
This company was chartered for the purpose of constructing a
railroad from some point on the Virginia State line in the county
of Rockingham, through the counties of Rockingham, Stokes, Forsyth,
Guilford, Davidson, Davie, Rowan, Iredell, Catawba, Lincoln,
Cleveland, Mecklenburg, Gaston and Union to a point on the South
Carolina State line, and also through the counties of Surry,
Yadkin, Wilkes, Caldwell, Watauga, Mitchell, Burke, McDowell,
Yancey, Buncombe, Madison, Haywood, Jackson, and Swain to the
Tennessee State line, or through such of said counties as the
company might deem proper.
Gross receipts year ending May 31, 1891, $1,946.73.
