The Electric Railway Journal of August 27, 1921 reported: "Unless traffic increases on the line of the Asheville & East Tennessee Railroad, which operates between Asheville and Seaverville [sic], a distance of 9 miles, the line will be junked. The preference for jitneys is assigned as one reason for the unsuccessful operation of the electric property."
The Electric Railway Journal of October 1, 1921 reported: "Despite the fact that officials of the Asheville & East Tennessee Railroad, Asheville, NC, recently announced that service would be suspended on Oct. 1, citizens of Asheville and Weaverville are starting a campaign to raise $5,000 for the continued operation of the line. One plan suggested is that the property owners along the line pay the railway a tax while others are asked to subscribe to stock."
