| At the outbreak of the American Revolution, there was already a growing network of roads and trails all across North Carolina. As new counties were created during the Revolutionary War, the citizens of North Carolina continued to improve their roads and trails, both internally and to/from the neighboring states of Virginia and South Carolina. |
