* Note. Joseph Dickson was promoted to Major in 1779. In September of 1780, he was a Major under Col. William Richardson Davie in the newly-created NC State Cavalry-Western District. Many soldiers identified him as a Captain in late 1780, therefore, he must've led a company as a Major, or these soldiers simply could not recall their Captain's name. These men are listed below, and possibly served under another Captain instead of directly under Maj. Joseph Dickson.
