Brief History of the Regiment:

As the Highland Scots were communicating with Royal Governor Josiah Martin in January and February of 1776, Col. John Ashe, Sr. decided to create his own small unit of hand-picked men. This unit was disbanded soon after the battle of Moore's Creek Bridge.

After the famous battle of Moore's Creek Bridge, on April 22, 1776, John Ashe was appointed as the Brigadier General over the newly-created Wilmington District Brigade of Militia.
