An Act to Authorize the Trustees of Portsmouth Academy, in Carteret Academy, to Raise by Lottery One Thousand Dollars.

The Laws of the State of North Carolina 1822 - Page 55.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Trustees of the Portsmouth Academy, in Carteret County, for the time being, shall be and they are hereby authorized and empowered to raise by lottery, and by such scheme or schemes as they or a majority of them may think most advisable, a sum not exceeding one thousand dollars, under special condition that the same shall be appropriated to the use and benefit of the said Academy.

II. And be it further enacted, That the said lottery or lotteries shall be conducted and drawn under the superintendence and direction of such person or persons, at such time or times and under such rules, regulations and restrictions as the said trustees may deem the most beneficial to the interest of the said institution, and to apply the proceeds to the necessary repairs of the house, or to other objects that add to the prosperity of the said seminary.
