An Act to Authorize the Trustees of the Milton Female Academy to Raise Certain Sums of Money by Way of Lottery.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Trustees of the Milton Female Academy or a majority of them, be, and they are hereby authorized and empowered to raise by one or more lotteries, a sum of money not exceeding four thousand dollars which shall be drawn in such number of classes and at such times as in the opinion of the said Trustees may be deemed most expedient, and under such rules, and regulations and restrictions as shall be approved of by the said Trustees.

2. Be it further enacted, That the said Trustees or a majority of them shall appoint such persons m may seem suitable as managers of said Lotteries, whose duty it shall be to form a scheme thereof, subject to the approbation of the Board of Trustees, and to superintend the several drawings of said Lotteries, and who shall give bond and security to the President and Trustess of said Academy, for the faithful and fair execution of their duties as managers aforesaid.

3. Be it further enacted, That by the first class there shall be raised a sum not exceeding one thousand dollars, and be drawn for, so soon as a sufficient number of tickets may be disposed of, and the sum when so raised shall be applied by the Trustees thereof for the exclusive benefit of the Milton Female Academy.

4. And be it further enacted, That the remaining sum shall be drawn for, whenever a majority of the Trustees aforesaid shall so order, and when received shall be paid over to such persons as may be hereafter appointed Trustees of the Milton Male Academy, and shall be by them applied for the benefit of said Academy, and shall be drawn for under the same rules, regulations and restrictions as herein before expressed.
