An Act to Incorporate the Allemance Library Society in the County of Guilford.

1819 - Chapter CVII

The Laws of the State of North Carolina 1819 - Pages 72-73.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the members of an Institution lately formed in the County of Guilford for the purpose of procuring and establishing a circulating Library of useful books, be, and they are hereby incorporated into a body corporate and politic by the name and style of the Allemance Library Society, and by that name may sue and be sued, plead and be impleaded, have succession and a common estate in such books, pamphlets and papers or other property as they may acquire either by purchase, donation or otherwise.

II. And be it further enacted, That Isaiah McBride, Sampson Stuart, Walter McConnell, James Neiley, John Allison, Levi Houston and Jedediah Cuzic be, and they are hereby appointed a committee for, and on behalf of the members of the said society, and they and their successors in office shall have full power and authority, to make, ordain and enforce such bye-laws, rules and regulations for the good management and safe keeping the books and other property of the said society as they may from time to time think expedient and proper.
