An Act to Establish a Seminary of Learning on Adams's Creek, in Craven County.

I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of North Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That John S. Nelson, Benjamin Mason, Joseph Masters, Philip Neale, sen'r, John Cantey and Philip Neal, jun'r. be and they are hereby constituted and appointed Trustees to superintend the government of a seminary of learning on Adams's Creek, in the county of Craven, with full power and authority to receive all donations, legacies, or devises which may be made to them as Trustees aforesaid, for the purpose of erecting a building and supporting the said seminary hereby constituted by the name of Adams's Creek Academy; and the Trustees and their successors or a majority of them, are hereby empowered to ask, demand, sue for, recover and receive from all persons, any forms of money or other property, real as well as personal, to which they may be entitled by donation or purchase, with full power to apply and use the same as to them shall seem best adapted for the advancement of said seminary and the promotion of virtue and learning.

II. And be it further enacted, That the said Trustees or a majority of them (who in all cases are constituted a quorum) shall make choice of some fit situation on Adams's Creek, whereon to erect the buildings necessary for said seminary.

III. And be it further enacted, That when any of the said Trustees named in this Act shall die, remove or resign, a majority of thos remaining, shall have full power and authority to appoint others in the room of those so dead, removed or resigned.

IV. And be it further enacted, That the said Trustees and their successors, are hereby appointed a body politic and corporate by the name of the Trustees of the Adams's Creek Academy, and shall be able and capable in law to act and do all things whatsoever for the promotion of said seminary, in as full and ample manner as any body politic or corporate can or may by law.
